At EXCEL Basketball Academy, we elevate the rate of player development by emphasizing the importance of fundamentals — the foundation of excellence on the court. Our athletes gain mastery in essential skills and game strategies, including shooting, passing, pick and roll, triple-threat positioning, post moves, transition offense and defense, ​defensive Techniques, closeouts, and basketball IQ.

About Lance Hurdle
CO-FOUNDER OF EXCEL BASKETBALL ACADEMY
Coach Lance is the Co-Founder of EXCEL Basketball Academy, where he leads all training and player development initiatives. A former college standout at the University of Miami (FL) and a 10-year professional basketball veteran in the NBA G-League and Australia, Coach Lance brings a wealth of experience and passion to every athlete he mentors. Currently, he serves as the Boys Varsity Basketball Head Coach at Cape Henry Collegiate, where he has also held roles as the Girls Varsity Head Coach, Dean of the Middle School, and Director of Student Life. Prior to his current role, Coach Lance was the Head of Basketball at the Virginia Beach Field House and the Player Development Director for USC RipCity Basketball in Australia, overseeing basketball development programs, clinics, Aussie Hoops, and individual training. During his professional playing career, he also led basketball clinics in Aboriginal communities across Australia.
With a unique blend of playing and coaching experience, Coach Lance is dedicated to helping athletes develop both on and off the court, using basketball as a tool to build confidence, discipline, and life skills.
